Foundation Stage 2

Winter:

When we returned from the Christmas break, we noticed that it had been snowing. We decided to wrap up warm, put our wellies on and go for a five-minute walk around the school grounds. We talked about the season of winter and looked for signs of this. We also talked about the weather and what the sun will do to the ice and snow. As we walked, the children found footprints in the snow and enjoyed following these to see where they led to. They also enjoyed 'fishing' for treasure in the ice!

Week 3:

We continued our ‘Once Upon a Time’ topic by learning about The Three Little Pigs. We worked collaboratively to create houses using a range of different materials. We predicted which house we thought was the strongest and reasons why. I encouraged the children to use vocabulary we have learnt, including ‘construct’, ‘flimsy’ and ‘sturdy’.
We then put our predictions to the test by attempting to blow the houses down, just like the big bad wolf!

This activity required the children to listen to each other’s ideas and take them on board. There were some disagreements along the way but with encouragement and support, the children were able to come to an agreement.

Week 5:

This week we celebrated National Storytelling week by inviting family members into the classroom as Mystery Readers! The children listened to stories about penguins and Tiddler the fish! A great week, we are now very excited for our visits to Compton Library in the coming days!

Week 6:

This week we held a Wonderful Writers meeting for parents. We talked about the progression of skills linked to writing and physical development and the parents had a fantastic opportunity to put into practice what they had learnt when working alongside their child.
